Jeff Bezos of Amazon fame (he’s the founder and CEO for those not in the know) is doing surprisingly well after weathering the costliest divorce in history — he’s bought the most expensive mansion ever sold in California.
Bezos bought a nine-acre Beverly Hills estate for $165 million, according to The Wall Street Journal. Media mogul David Geffen was the previous owner. Bezos and Lauren Sanchez (his fiancée or his girlfriend depending on which media outlet you believe) were reportedly house hunting for some time in Beverly Hills and Bel Air.
Bezos lost an estimated $38 billion in the costliest divorce in history, according to Business Insider. His ex-wife, Mackenzie, helped Bezos build Amazon from the ground up. The Bezos couple have four children together and have created a parenting plan through the courts. There are few solid, credible leads on why they split up, and a lot of innuendo about just how long Jeff Bezos and Sanchez have been involved.
Despite Bezos’ purchase of the most expensive mansion in California history, lawsuits from people such as Sanchez’s brother Michael, and the divorce making Mackenzie Bezos the third-richest woman in the world, Bezos himself is far from going to the poorhouse. He also paid $90 million for land near his new Beverly Hills mansion, according to CNN. This land was owned by the late Paul Allen — who just happened to be a Microsoft co-founder.
We at Realty411 are always pleased to see historic real estate records broken, regardless of some of the controversies that have surrounded Bezos’ personal and professional behavior. We are also pleased that not only did he and Sanchez recently meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris to discuss the climate (check out Bezos’ official Twitter page for a picture of the trio), but also that Bezos pledged $10 billion (per his Instagram page) to address climate change. While it is not our business when Bezos and Sanchez became a couple, it is our business to be proud of someone who is combining lavish real estate purchases with philanthropy about a very important issue.
